Oil energy pros and cons

There is no perfect energy source. Each energy source has its own advantages and as well as disadvantages. Oil energy is no exception

Pros of oil energy

Powerful energy source

Oil is an extremely powerful energy source. Oil produces high energy output. A crude oil product is petrol. It is used widely in automobiles. This is because petrol has high energy output when compared to other energy sources. A study shows that petrol can move vehicles faster and longer than any other energy source of the same cost. And moreover, petrol has very good compressibility and ignition factor which makes it much more suitable for regular use.

Impact on global economy

Most of the middle-east countries are rich only because they have lots of oil reserves. It has such huge impact on the global economy. These oil exporting companies have formed a group known as OPEC (Organization for Petroleum Exporting Countries). The various countries in OPEC are: Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Venezuela. It takes major decision on oil exports and fixing the price of oil and various other things. If they increase the price of the oil, then there would be a major downfall in global economy.

Oil energy Availability

As of now, Oil is abundantly available. The available oil will be enough at least for the next 25 years. So it makes oil on of the most important primary sources of energy. Peak oil is the point of time when the petroleum extraction is at the peak. After which the petroleum extraction will be reduced.

Liquid nature

As the oil is present in the liquid state, it has many advantages. But the main advantage is that it is easier to transport from one country to another country. They can be exported to other countries via pipelines that are laid across countries.

Combusting property

Oil energy is easily combustible. That is it will ignite at a much lower temperature than any other combustible materials. Thus it also makes oil energy to be used in motor cycles rather than the others.

Technology advantage

Oil energy does not need any new technologies to provide the output. Thus it is much simpler and more effective than other energy sources. Thus an oil-fuelled power station can be built anywhere until you get the required oil.

And a few other advantages

  • Oil is readily available.
  • Oil produces less carbon-di-oxide than coal when burnt.
  • Many people are employed in the oil industries.
  • Good availability.

Cons of oil energy

Environmental problems

Oil energy causes many environmental problems. Most of the problems are caused due to the emission of the carbon-di-oxide. The increase in the level of emission of co2 causes global warming, which is a serious environmental issue. The heat from the sun is absorbed by the co2. Thus increasing the temperature of the earth. This is known as greenhouse effect.

Drilling problems

The oil must be drilled outside from beneath the earth. This causes many problems for the surface of the earth

Oil spills problem

The release of oil in the environment mainly ocean is known as oil spill. The oil spill is a major problem during the transportation of the oil. The oil not only gets wasted, but it also affects a wide range of marine life. It is a form of pollution.

No future

As the oil will be completely used in another 25 years, there is no future for oil to be the primary source of energy. It is a non-renewable source of energy. Various other sources of energy must be found out
